Toyota introduced the Prius nameplate in 1997, and the car became the spearhead for the hybrid-car revolution. Right from the start, it was an eco-friendly family hauler that boasted excellent fuel efficiency. Up until the fifth generation of this moniker, neither version of it was sporty.
